The Fossil Creek Band grew out of the farmlands of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan back in the spring of 2006, and has since grown into one of the premier Bluegrass/Americana bands in the Great Lakes region. The “Creekers” are known for their fun-loving, energetic performing style, tight harmonies, and their original Bluegrass/Americana tunes. They have a great time writing and playing their original style of bluegrass music, and you’ll have a great time being part of a Fossil Creek Band show!
|A Little Background...|
The members of The Fossil Creek Band came from diverse musical backgrounds, but we have found a common love in Bluegrass music. Our past experiences in folk, country, rock, and even barbershop music all contribute in some way to the Fossil Creek Band sound. Originally a Bluegrass Gospel group, we started out with shows mostly in area churches, but over time, we found more common ground in the sound of traditional bluegrass. As we began to find our songwriting wings, original music became our focus, culminating in our 2012 release, "Songs From Home", our first album of original bluegrass music. During that time, our touring became more widespread, including the southeastern and northeastern regions of the country. In 2015, our newest album, "Waitin' On The Daylight" , was released, and became the #3 most downloaded Bluegrass release for August 2015 on Airplay Direct. We continue to enjoy radio airplay all over the US and in over 30 countries. We hope to continue this momentum as we work hard to expand our fan base to wherever folks want to hear the Fossil Creek Band sound.
The Fossil Creek Band is:
Jan Hudson, the banjo player for Fossil Creek, has been involved in the bluegrass scene for many years, not only as a musician but also building and repairing instruments. With Fossil Creek Band, Jan plays banjo, sings lead and harmony vocals, and occasionally writes a song or two. She does most of the booking and promotional work for the band, and is often the ringleader of our serious attention deficit behavior. She has also been a professional photographer and studio owner for over 41 years in her hometown of Lambertville, MI. Jan believes that music is a blessing, and we most definitely agree!
Tom Galbraith came from folk and Gospel music to the world of bluegrass in the late 1990's after playing with the gospel band B.O.B.. Tom plays mandolin and guitar ,and sings lead and harmony vocals with Fossil Creek Band. He has also written many of our original songs. A life-long educator from Wauseon, OH, he finally found his true love telling the stories that are at the heart of bluegrass music. He is also involved in promotions, and along with his lovely wife Patricia, does most of the merchandising for TFCB.
Duke Nethery has been a part of the Toledo area music community for many years where he is known as a gifted guitarist and entertainer who can play almost any style of music. In December of 2019, during a moment of extreme weakness, he agreed to become a part of the TFCB family, and we couldn't be happier! Duke's style, personality, and sense of humor fit in perfectly with the Creekers, and we are having a blast working on music and just having fun!
Jerry Spitler, a native of Genoa, Ohio who now lives in Lambertville, MI, has been playing bass with TFCB since the winter of 2009. His musical history started playing music in grade school and has continued nonstop for over 50 years. He was Operation Manager of a Fortune 500 company during his job working years. Now, retired, his love for music and performing is endless .... just like his cup of coffee that perpetually needs filled! A fun guy on stage, Jerry is thinking music 24 hours a day on how to make the band he is in, better and better. He has the ability to play many different instruments, bass, guitar, and keyboards just to name a few. You can hear Jerry's expertise on bass on all of TFCB's recordings.
Dave Moore, a Bowling Green, Ohio resident, comes from a family of fiddling royalty in the bluegrass community around NW Ohio and SE Michigan. His father, Dave Moore Sr, was a local legend in the NW Ohio and SE Michigan bluegrass community, and his grandfather was also a great fiddle player. Davey is known as one of the area's most outstanding fiddle players, and his harmony and lead singing have added a lot to the TFCB sound.
Shawn Miller, a resident of Whitehouse, Ohio began playing with TFCB in June of 2021, and we couldn't be happier. He is a great bluegrass guitar picker, and has a true bluegrass singing voice. His solid rhythms and great lead guitar licks have been a real compliment to the Fossil Creek sound, and his lead and harmony vocals have been a huge addition to the Fossil Creek sound.
